As a self-professed (matte) lipstick addict, I’m always looking for new products that can be added to my collection. But since I already have a large quantity of lippies, I’m not just hoping to find a new shade to add to my ever-growing makeup bag, I’m ultimately looking for quality and all the best formulas I own all have the same characteristics: rich, creamy, as durable as they are pigmented.
But I have to be completely honest: the hunt for quality was note the main reason I was drawn to Winky Lux. I fell in love at first sight with their unique packaging. I mean: pill-like lipsticks, who could ever resist them?! Moreover their many shades of lipsticks are so beautiful and unique and their prices are really competitive (since Winky Lux sells online, the brand is able to pass significant savings on to customers and this allows them to offer a luxury product at a drug store price).
I bought my first two lippies, Babe (nude) and Mermaid (rich teal), on June 9th, 2016. As soon as I received the parcel (from Asos, one of their authorised retailers) and tried them on, that was the exact moment when I fell in love with their quality as well as their look.
I started collecting Winky Lux products, expanding my fascination to their face and eyes products too. This post will show you my six current favourites with my personal reviews, hope you’ll enjoy it!
About Winky Lux:
Winky Lux is a line of color cosmetics made from the highest quality ingredients known to woman-kind. All of their products are cruelty free, paraban free, phthalate free, non-toxic and heavily pigmented. They don’t test on animals and they insist that their suppliers don’t either. Their products are sustainably made and they strive to create beautiful and unusual colors to stop you in your tracks. The brand’s base is in the bustling Lower East Side of Manhattan (NYC). Oh, and yes, their offices are pink.
CITY — The purple lipstick
I love makeup and I feel naked without at least a little eyeliner or a nice lipstick on, but I don’t like to wear full face makeup every single day, it’s too time-consuming and I actually prefer to wear it only in special occasions. That’s why dark berry shades are my everyday go-tos: they highlight my facial features with no need for more makeup. But more purple nuances look terrible on me because they have in them more brown than I can pull off, making me feel like a living corpse. So when I first saw this lipstick I loved its color but I wasn’t sure about how it would look against my skin tone. Turned out really loved the way it looked on me!
Winky Lux Matte Lip Velour lipsticks are all designed to be ultra long-wearing matte lipsticks, that said, I’m the first to admit that not all formulas are created equally. City’s formula felt rich and moisturizing on my lips, but the lipstick color faded away pretty “quickly”, and in about three hours I felt the need to re-apply a second coat. I also used a lip pencil to keep in place and it worked smoothly.
Not the best lipstick out of the 4 I reviewed here, but definitely the best purple lipstick ever!
WHIPPED CREAM primer
When it comes to face makeup products I’m always looking for products that do their job and then some extra magic. Well, the sweet pink Winky Lux Whipped Cream primer is exactly what I was looking for: its job is to blur pores and prolong makeup wear when worn under foundation, but – when used alone or over foundation – It also makes your complexion look dewy yet not shiny. It’s the lightest and most delectable cheekbone highlighter ever: the perfect choice if you like to showcase your facial feature but not as boldly as Kim Kardashian does.
Whipped Cream primer’s formula is super moussey and it feels as light as a cloud on your skin. Not to mention that it is also cruelty free, paraben free, gluten free and made in the USA.
PLUSH — The pink lipstick
Out of the four lipstick I’m reviewing, Plush is one of the longest lasting and I actually had a lot compliments from people when I wore this lipstick. The beautiful pink nuance, the matte finish and all-day wear makes it a Summer must-have I also have to compliment for it’s creaminess and softness.
I also wore this lipstick with the Birthday Cake lip gloss (I got it as a birthday gift while shopping from Winky Lux e-shop) over it and it was amazing: super shiny and the perfect fit for full pastel outfits.
MEOW — The dark nude lipstick
Before Babe and Meow I was yet to find the perfect nude fit for my skin tone and personal style, now I have all I need. Babe has a little more pink in it, this makes it the perfect nude lipstick for winter, when my skin is paler. But Meow is a whole-year-worthy nude lipstick, it’s a bit darker than Babe and complement my skin tone perfectly. All the Lip Velour lipstick are infused with natural vanilla for the ultimate lip experience, and they are also packed with suspended pigments to give lips a cushiony feel, so no wonder Meow has a super lightweight moussy texture. It was also the easiest to apply and achieved a long-lasting color without drying my lips. Moreover I only need a single swipe to achieve complete coverage! In a scale from 1 to 10, Meow is definitely a 10 for me!
MACARON PALETTE + poodle pin
This lovely eyeshadow palette comes in the Winky Lux signature floral box and with a natural birchwood brush. The featured shades are: Almond Cream (a very soft beige), Raspberry (pink with a dash of mauve), Pistachio (light mint green), Strawberry (the cutest pastel pink ever), Tiramisu (50% light brown, 50% burgundy, 100% lovely). These eyeshadows are all cruelty free, very pigmented but still really light and blendable, making them the perfect choice to achieve a no-makeup makeup or a fairy inspired look. Also, if you’re an eye-makeup newbie, this is the set for you: you don’t need to be a real MUA to use this palette at its fullest, its soft colors will do the work for you and highlight your natural beauty. Just choose the best hue to complement your skin tone or your eyes color.
Interesting fact: that bright pink poodle pin it’s actually the brand symbol. Why? Winky Lux wanted the standard poodle to be their mascot because she embodies how they feel about the brand (did you know that the standard poodle is actually a hunting dog?). She’s highly intelligent, loyal, playful, beautiful and requires lots of grooming. Nothing standard about that!
HEART — The red lipstick
If makeup products could get lifetime achievement awards, red lipstick would be the ultimate winner: women from all over the world have been rocking the classic red lips look for centuries and we all have at least one red lipstick in our makeup bag (come on, just one? Are you kidding me?!).
Heart is super pigmented and is not just another red lippie, is the way to upgrade your signature look, to make a makeup statement and to add a little extra confidence when needed. Plus, this particular shade of red makes your teeth look whiter… 😉

I am obsessed with matte lipsticks! I’ve been trying to find a good quality cruelty-free lipstick for a while, but most of what I’ve tried so far hasn’t been very long lasting. Meow seems like the shade I’m looking for, I’ll definitely give it a try when I scrape together some makeup money. 🙂
The whole brand looks so adorable!

I love matte lipsticks too and I think I’m inclined towards the HEART shade cuz I think it’ll be suitable for Chinese New Year. The Winky Lux range of cosmetics look classy in terms of packaging – I would love to try their products someday 😉 Thanks for sharing!
